The Locale: Manassas, Virginia is situated in the Northern Virginia region surrounded by Prince William County and is about 30 miles west / southwest of Washington, D.C. Manassas has a population of approximately 37,500 and is considered part of the Washington Metropolitan Area. Amtrak and the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) supply both regular and commuter rail service to the D.C. metropolitan and surrounding areas, as well as convenient rail/bus links to the D.C. Metro system. In addition to the attractions in the nation’s capital, Prince William and neighboring Fairfax, Loudoun, Fauquier, and Stafford counties are home to diverse historical, cultural, dining, indoor/outdoor recreational and sporting activities – all within a 90-minute drive or less. These include: civil war re-enactments, museums, international cuisine, hiking/biking trails, league sports, river/lake fishing, skiing/snowboarding, Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah and other National Parks. Skilled, motivated software engineer needed to work in the Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) community, developing submarine weapons and SONAR systems, specifically for international customers.
While specific domain knowledge is not required, SONAR and/or weapons experience would be a discriminator. If you've ever written software to provision a torpedo, you should apply for this job! Basic Qualifications for this position will include a BS degree in computer engineering, computer science, or closely related technical field; or equivalent experience/combined education and 5 years of professional level experience.
Proficiency with both Java and C++ is a must.
Familiarity with developing applications for Linux.
Experience in object-oriented development for a real-time or near real-time system is required. This includes the ability to develop and troubleshoot multi-threaded applications in this environment.
Solid mathematical skills are required.
The desire to learn and grow is required.
Strong verbal and written communications skills are required.
Experience developing for SONAR and/or weapons, especially in a submarine environment, would be a significant discriminator.
Familiarity with a CI/CD environment.
Experience with agile development.
