The Terracon office in Lenexa, Kansas has an immediate opening for Geotechnical Department Manager. This is a great opportunity lead a well-established and strong technical team, build and maintain client relationships, and grow our consulting engineering practice. As the Geotechnical Department Manager, you will primarily be responsible for developing and mentoring the engineering and exploration teams, ensuring project quality, conducting business development tasks, leading safety, and for the financial performance of the department. The department is a leader in geotechnical engineering services related to site characterization and exploration, soils laboratory services, geotechnical engineering design, transportation design-build, geotechnical consulting and other specialty services.

Other duties will include:
Prepare and oversee the preparation of complex proposals and cost estimates.
Prepare and participate in client and proposal related presentations.
Manage projects in area of expertise.
Manage utilization and all other aspects of exploration teams.
Directs the short-range business development activities of all department personnel to ensure that adequate fees are available to support the manpower on the payroll.
Plan for and execute the recruitment, selection, training, mentoring, and development of all employees in the department.
Prepare and lead execution of the department annual business plan.
Oversee and manage the success of the key department metrics of revenue growth, staff chargeability, project billing and collections, and project profitability.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with minimum of 10 years practice experience.
Master’s degree or PhD preferred.
Previous supervisory experience required and previous managerial experience preferred.
P.E. Licensure required
Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
